iPhone iSpit 1.1
iSpit is a tiny, fast and easy to use application that allows you to download files from your iPhone using your favorite internet browser.
Product page: iPhone iSpit
iSpit is reported to be working on:
- iPhone with firmware 1.1.1
- iPhone with firmware 1.2.1
If you run it on the iTouch or with other configurations please post.
Update, version 1.1 available!
This version features changing the port number. There is also a little template that you can change, it’s the /Applications/iSpit.app/template.html file. Anyone out there to test?
Bugs and solutions
Currently you need the BSD subsystem installed.

The link to ispit on the bottom of the served pages is not properly formatted - it tries to open the page within the internal network.
does this proxy server have an option to use upstream proxy.
i have a wap connection requiring a proxy on the operator side
This is exellent, very light, dosen’t overload the cpu. I just wonder if it’s possible to customize the look of the pages diplayed?
Hi!
great app!
…but where i can change the TCP port (default is 80, but i use lighthttpd in this port) … second, is possible to implement a simple auth control when i browse this page?

I am sure I am new to this apple stuff but how do you create a new folder using the web browser interface and then upload a file to the new folder. I am sure this is new stuff to many of you but hey we all had to learn sometime. Thanks in advance for any advice.

First of all: my compliments for this great little app, and making it freely available. Thanks a zillion! Will definitely donate as soon as I’m not completely broke :(
However, currently installing and updating is a bit of a mess. After updating 1.0 (from conceited software repo) to 1.1 (from robota repo), Installer.app is telling me 1.0 is an update to 1.1. Go figure…
And editing the template.html is not working like it should imho. After editing and saving the file, nothing changes on i mediate reloading of a page; not even after rebooting the iPhone. I figured I have to open iSpit.app, disable it, exit it, reopen it, re-enable it, and exit it again. That is just a *little* bit too tedious if you ask me.
Also, iSpit does not seem to work well with symlinks. To avoid running out of space, I have (like many others, I suppose) moved my Applications folder to the bigger disk and created a symlink to it. But now iSpit lets me browse to endless circular paths like /Applications/Applications/Applications/Applications/Applications/Applications/
… which is quite confusing.
@WiFont
1. Donate only if you can afford, any amount is appreciated.
2. For the update you are right, the two distribution channels are confusing but I still want to release the latest version on the Robota repository to be able to receive valuable comments like yours.
3. template.html .. I was’nt sure anyone would like to use a template, just thought I should mention it. Will fix an option to reload directly for you.
4. symlinks, none of us really tested that before the release but they should be followed. Will look into that too.
Thanks for trying this version and the comments, expect an update versy soon!
how do you “use” this app? I tried going to that URL on both my windows box at work and the iPhone itself…and it never resolved….all I ever get is a blank screen???
admin: Jim, turn the switch ON and leave the application.
EASY TO USE:
1) Flick the switch to ON, note the ip number, leave port to 80, quit application.
2) Go to your internet brower on your pc type the ip number and press entr
You should now be able to browse the files on your phone.
Make sure you have BSD-SubSystem installed (that dependency is still a bug).
Great little app you’ve got here :)
When I was trying to think of suggestions the one thing that sprung to mind is being able to manually set the server root location. That way you can point the server at more specific directories which would save you from having to browse the entire file system.
admin: we might add a root folder location in the next release.
How can I change root folder path for iSpit?
admin: at the moment you can’t
I tried it on Ipod Touch, seems to work. Though I can’t find where the music is kept?
admin: your music placed by itunes can be found at /var/root/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/..
i have a question can i see any type of video using ispit like porn or adult things
admin: if you have that on your iphone in browser readable format yes, otherwise no.
i have another question i have firmware 1.0.2 it wiil work with ispit??/ please give me a answer.
admin: try and you know!
If i connect my ipod to a network then I can browse files with safari “on my ipod”. It’s greate because I want to browse some offline website in my ipod. But the problem is if I disconnect my ipod, then I can not browse it again. Is there any sollution for this. I try type the Wi-Fi address that appeare in Settings/General/About/Wi-Fi address, but it only show a root folder and I cant do any thing later, I already try localhost,v… but nothing happend.
Please help me. I want to browse my offline file with safari.
This is a nice little application. I like how I can now use the Safari browser as a file viewer for local files.
I have a bug to report, and a feature request.
BUG: Trying to view directory names and filenames with spaces in them always results in a 404 Not Found error.
REQUEST: Add an option to restrict the webserver to serve out pages only to the local address (127.0.0.1); don’t serve out pages to any remote addresses. This way, I can view my local files, but other people can’t.
Changing the default listening port helps against casual browsing, but the web server is still vulnerable to port scanning.
Hello,
It doesn’t work for me after installing it. I put it on with no error and tried on my iphone’s safari and on my PC’Firefox. Safari dispayed : “safari doesn’t succeed to open the page because connection to server is not possible” (translating from french sentence) and FF “”.
I have exactly the same issue with jiggy.
Could you please help me to access my phone via http ? The BSD subsystem is also installed.
Thanks for your help
I cannot seem to get this to work,
I have a “jailbroken” my phone installed open SSH and BSD sub systems, installed iSpit and cannot pull up in my browser
I do have a 16GB with the newest software 1.1.2
Any ideas?
admin,
is thee a way for me to download a on-screen recorder for my ipod withought having to buy one?
Thanks.
Hey Guys, great little app…but running into a prolem per say. it may be my ipod itself im not sure on this.
whenever i run ispit, it starts up fine…says its running…i go to click on view local address, and it cannot resolve from the ipod, or from my computer within the same wireless network. however, i can type in http://127.0.0.1 from my ipod and it gets to the browser, strangely enough .. http://localhost DOESNT work. it keeps telling me safari cant find the server.
is there something ive done wrong here ?
my ipod touch is version 1.1.2 jailbroken, originally bought as a 1.1.2 and jailbroken to 1.1.1 then reupgraded and broken again using the jailbreakme.com method. any thoughts sugguestions ? Ill be sure to donate if you can get me on the right path. this problem is blocking me from achieving a few other key things i would like my touch to do. :(
@Chris, that problem is iPod specific and has been solved, newer versions use the 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.
Add iphone.robota.nl to your installer sources and you should see a newer version.
