iGo 1.5 The Go game for the iPhone now supports zoom
We had a lot of email from people claiming they have ‘fatty’ fingers and cannot play the 19 x 19 board. Many suggestions have been given to improve the placing of the pieces on the tiny board (thanks!). After experimenting we have chosen to implement the zoom/scroll function and a quick way to undo the last move (including the opponents move). Last but not least the game supports stepping through a loaded game.
About 2% of application is paid so please don’t forget to donate if you like the game!

This is great news! I love this game. I’m quite new to Go but it’s by far the most used thing on my ipod. I’ve just donated and will donate again when 1.5 is released - I was also suffering the fat finger problem!
Ah ha. just tried it. That’s better. the zoom works really well, but…
perhaps auto zooming to the last placed stone would be better than zooming to the top left corner.
The step back and forward, and undo features are a great help.
Being able to player 2 player vs. games would be fantastic.
and lastly… I don’t if this is asking the impossible of the iphone cpu, but a hints mode showing good moves would make it a great learning tool for beginners like me!
Great news, that Undo has got an extra button, now.
However, I have to repeat my main concern: when I am playing with high level, iGo will think up to several minutes before I even get the chance to press the undo button!
My proposal: give me 2 seconds time to press undo, before iGo starts thinking. These 2 seconds will not bother players with lower levels, but will greatly improve the experience for better players.
Also a great feature is the mark on the last played stone. However, sometimes it is not shown, especially if iGo has killed stones. And, maybe I am also interested in my last played stone ;-)
for some reason, i cannot get this to install. It downloads and checks just fine, but it freezes at the install then closes installer… running 1.1.2 firmware
@NM: try to refresh the sources.
Otherwise add iphone.robota.nl to your sources and try again (you will see double in the installer, one is from Robota, the other from Ste Packaging).
Excellent!!! Great job.
Regarding user interface:
Zooming to the last played stone automatically with a switchable button could be useful.
Since there is only one level zoom in and zoom out, using one button instead of two could be more ergonomic. Or a better one would be: using the picture zoom of iphone with two fingers (with many levels of zoom).
Regarding Game:
When the computer is thinking undo doesn’t work. Thus, after a misplaced stone it takes a long time to undo.
A great feature could be connecting to an online game server e.g kgs, igs, etc.
Thanks a lot…
Thanks for developing this, I really wanted a Go app on my iPhone… donation is on its way from PayPal now ;)
A few suggestions for future releases:
-After making a play when zooming in (which is almost always the case in my experience since that eliminates clicking errors), it should zoom out automatically. That way, you can look at the whole board and think possible moves while GNUGo thinks its own.
-Add star points. Very useful for orientation.
-Make optional the feature of play-by-play score calculation display. It can be useful, but since it’s not perfect, it can also be misleading and distracting.
-Other things that have already been mentioned that get my vote: ability to play against another person (i.e. not using GNUGo), ability to play on a Go server (IGS allows this easily, KGS does not), ability to undo while GNUGo thinks, fixing autosave since it sometimes takes you back a few plays.
With 1.1.3 I have some crashes: program exits or enter an infinite loop saying something about “no data”. I’ll donate for a stable version of the game.
I cannot install iGo.
I have the 1.1.1 (3A109a) iPhone version.
What I am doing wrong?
Which application do I need to install before? and how to do it?
I tried as you mention in your website but it was too complicated and cumbersome for me.
Please, make it easier.
I ask you for step by step indications to follow so I can have the iGo running in my cell phone soon.
Best regards,

Will this be released on the App Store soon?
I enjoyed this Go app in my jailbroken days, but now have gone straight (at least for a little while). This was a really useful and promising app, and i think would sell well at the App store… Any plans that way? (Btw, I donated once when i had your version installed.) My guess is that there is no way to wrap and use the Gnu Go Engine without violating Apple’s policy involving application threads/processes - is that right?
